New Year, Better Mobile Browser

Some people are put off from using the internet in their smartphones because it was text-heavy, very little images, slow, and cumbersome. This was more likely due to both the smartphone’s hardware and integrated web browser. With the creation of better and more technologically capable smartphones, most expect some improvements with the browser as well. Well, here comes Skyfire to make your mobile web viewing so much better.

The new mobile browser brings the true internet (like you’d experience from your desktop or laptop computer) to Windows Mobile smartphones. Flash-advertisements, YouTube, MySpace, Facebook - any and all web-pages load in speedy fashion thanks to Skyfire’s behind-the-scenes server-magic. With integrated Flash support, animated/interactive advertisements come to life, embedded videos play in the browser, and Flash-based web-pages are finally viewable.

Available for Windows Mobile 5 and 6. It can be integrated whether your smartphone is touch or non-touchscreen. It is currently still under beta testing.

Security Improvements

netsec.jpgMany companies have taken up the challenge of securing internet and data that go through the internet as we move to a more mobile workplace. Encryption, data compression and other technologies have greatly improved the security of information as it barrels through the internet. Hardware based protection for such networks are now becoming available and are now being implemented. Firewalls and other intrusion prevention and detection systems have improved greatly allowing us to work without worrying about information being lost or being stolen. Biometrics and other technologies bundled together is proving to be a harder nut to crack and many are finding them more and more of a necessity to assure safe and secure computing over the Internet.

Consumer Electronics on the Move

conselec.jpgThe CES market has expanded and benefited from the computer technology industry at the same pace. Innovations in the computing world are quickly becoming integrated into Consumer electronics goods as fast as they are thought of. Maybe because these products are becoming more of the mainstream money earners for IT companies because there are already too many giants to compete with in the IT industry. The best innovations are the smallest and most indiscrete such as the ever increasing transition of the workforce into the true wireless network where anyone can work and stay connected with their jobs anytime anyplace. True, many plans for city-wide implementations flopped (high cost of investment) but they are again being re-thought as new technologies arise. Most major cities have hot-spots that can be tied together with newer WiMax systems.

Online Retail

ecommerce.JPGMany stores have yet to go online and get the convenience of Pay Pal. Retailers are trying to find a new way of getting customers who have the said service to still do purchases even without a paypal account through other alternatives. Retail stores have longed to get the convenience and ease on implementing more and more payment options for their customers such as Google’s check-out now and bill me later facility. To promote these alternatives, retailers have offered discounts for those who use them and are starting to get results. The lower the cost of credit card transactions the higher the profit margin. The Lower the overhead cost for purchases the lower the price and more power to the buyer making everybody happier all at the same time.

New Age Media

Media giants that did have web pages have had to adapt a new approach towards news and information that they have in their web pages. They used to be digitized copies of boring print but they have now realized the benefits of distributed web designs that allow better exposure and advertising revenue has grown immensely as they shift to the newer approach. They have had to re-think the way they delivered the news forming alliances with some of the nest search engines who in point to them searches that have increased dramatically over the years. Their purchase of online media has allowed them to adopt more aggressive online promotion and advertising resulting in better profit margins.

.NET Framework

web2.jpg
The much hyped .NET framework has changed the way the internet operated in a way that information is not stored on concentrated powerful servers but scattered all over the place. This places the user at the helm and information is more distributed to where it is needed most. It also allows for smaller data centers in the true spirit of the .NET framework enterprises have had to re-think their business applications worked. They now have faster and smaller data centers distributed around the world with only the information that is needed kept and stored within it. No all week back-up processing in order to save all the processed data into one huge repository. The data is processed online, and the ones that have to be stored are kept with the other data needed by the head offices getting only the processed data they need.

Google Custom Search

Google has announced the launch of it’s custom search engine to the rest of the world which makes the search engine more effective and powerful tool. It allows users to access the advanced search function (which was only available in the US for quite sometime now). The new search system uses semantics to give results that are better a match to the terms searched based on the use and not merely based on the similarity of the words used. Traditional search engines used phrase matching technology where it uses its immense databases which already have indexed information stored for the exact words in order giving results based on the exact word matches and then gives results that have any of the individual words making a search a long and arduous process.

Internet Mail Security

domainkeys.JPGSearch Engines with free e-mail abilities have been the target of many attacks in attempts to disrupt the smooth operation of the web. A testament to this would be the attacks done on most major e-mail servers when a hacker dropped a code that sent infinite sending of junk e-mail to all the contacts in the victim computer and the recipients also did the same till the whole internet seized-up causing delayed transactions and system slowdown across the globe. To address this, one of the biggest free e-mail providers has implemented DomainKeys a verification tool that allows email recipients to know if the said email did come from the registered sender. An email sent from yahoo should have a domain key equivalent to that particular providers servers and clients. This prevents false email that contains spam and other malware from being opened and released into the wild (internet) to cause more havoc.
